Husker Grill Cleaning

A mobile grill cleaning and repair company serving the Lincoln and Omaha metros, built around a detailed deep-clean process with a gas safety check on every visit.

The problem

Most grills only ever get their grates scraped. Grease and carbon build up underneath, on heat plates, burners and in the firebox, causing flare-ups, uneven heat and fire risk.

The service

A one-time deep clean includes full disassembly, a hot bath for parts, pro-grade steam, venturi and orifice clearing, firebox cleaning, a soapy-water gas leak check and an exterior polish. The company cleans gas, charcoal, pellet, smoker and flat-top grills, uses citrus degreasers and steam and recommends a deep clean twice a year.

The standard

Technicians are certified through the American Grill Service Institute, and I hold the CGCT and CAGST credentials myself. The business is fully insured and publishes its prices.

Trust

Husker Grill Cleaning has earned nearly 100 five-star reviews, one job at a time. Related reading: how often should you clean your grill and grill safety checks. Visit huskergrillcleaning.com.

What it taught me

  • The problems live where you can't see them.
  • Safety checks belong in every service.
  • Published processes build trust.

Sleep Sanitation

A mattress-only sanitation service using dry vapor steam, started because my wife — who is sensitive to mold — needed a better way to clean her organic mattress.

The problem

Wet cleaning puts water deep into a thick, absorbent mattress — the wrong direction for anyone concerned about mold.

The service

Five steps: inspect, isolate, sanitize, detail and reset. Italian Vapor Clean dry vapor steam, a HEPA vacuum and UV-C, with no detergents or fragrance in the standard service and enzymes for urine or odor problems. A moisture check comes last, and the bed stays unmade until dry.

Why mattress-only

Doing one thing means the equipment and process are built for it. Related reading: dry vapor steam mattress cleaning. Visit sleepsanitation.com.

What it taught me

  • Start with a problem you understand personally.
  • Low moisture matters as much as heat.
  • Focus makes a service better.

American Grill Service Institute

An independent certification body for grill service professionals, with exam-based credentials designed toward ISO/IEC 17024 principles.

Fig. 03, A standard turns a checklist into something testable.

The problem

Grill service had no common, testable standard. Customers had no easy way to tell a trained technician from anyone with a pressure washer.

The credentials

The Certified Grill Cleaning Technician (CGCT) is the Level I credential: 70 questions, 90 minutes, 75% to pass. The Certified Advanced Grill Service Technician (CAGST) requires CGCT and covers diagnostics, mechanical repair, parts replacement and gas safety fundamentals.

Credibility

AGSI is designed toward ISO/IEC 17024 principles and says plainly that it does not claim accreditation. Credentials renew every three years and can be checked through public verification. Related reading: why trade certification matters. Visit agsinstitute.org.

What it taught me

  • A credential should be earned by passing, not purchasing.
  • Honesty about status is part of credibility.
  • Verification makes trust checkable.

FairlyKnown

A service that builds accurate, positive websites and profiles under a person's own name, so that searching for them turns up something true.

Fig. 04, What people find when they search your name.

The problem

Customers search for local business owners as well as their businesses. What they find is often thin, outdated or about someone else.

The approach

Build a fast, well-structured site under the person's own name, with only verified facts, helpful long-form writing and links to the profiles they control. Never defamatory, never impersonating, never guaranteed rankings.

This site

This site is built on FairlyKnown. Related reading: what your name says online. Visit personalreputationmanagement.org.

What it taught me

  • Accuracy beats impressiveness.
  • Own the properties you control.
  • Nobody can honestly guarantee rankings.
